See below DJs available for hire via Hi-Life in the North East.
In most circumstances your DJ will be selected based primarily upon the music that you are looking for, as well as the location of the event & availability. You can of course request a quote to book a specific DJ however.
Former record label owner, producer/A&R and massive music fan of all genres, DJ Ziggy needs little in the way of hype.
You can see him on our promotional video, shot in February 2014.
Ziggy has been with us since the company started out in 2006, as he was a frequent visitor to my record shop. He is now a full time member of our team, responsible for client and venue liaison and DJ training too.
He started out being influenced by the original breaks, from early jazz, funk & reggae (his family hail from Barbados), although he is very much a Yorkshireman. He plays all styles of music, contemporary & retro from funk & soul, to disco, hip-hop, indie & rock, deep & funky house, urban & electronica.
Darren joined the company after he mailed me a phenomenal mix tape. He covers all areas of music & has a great knack of dropping the right tune at the right time. Whether he is playing a straight up party set, or something more eclectic, he can move seamlessly through styles.
He is now based in Chesterfield, so covers a lot of DJ work in Sheffield, Derbyshire, Nottingham, etc, but still also covers Manchester, Cheshire & Leeds too. He also is a full time member of our team, so you may be hearing from him, even if he is not booked for your event to liaise with you. He is a good choice for marquee based events, as he has sound engineering experience too.
Hi-Life Entertainment was set up by me, but we are not your typical one man operation, having a team of three full time staff.
What I bring to the table (whether as DJ or agent), is over 20 years working full time in music. I have played guitar in bands, owned & managed a couple of record shops & have been a full time DJ now since 2006.
I'm best known for doing "scooter" or "mod" music; northern soul, tamla motown, ska, britpop, etc, but I do cover all types of music. One of the reasons the company is called Hi-Life is my love of african music, both old & new.
I got into music through punk rock & bands like the Clash, who opened my mind to everything from Chuck Berry to Toots & the Maytals & Grandmaster Flash.
I still buy masses of vinyl records for club & bar DJing, but use a digital set up for weddings & parties, running Traktor.
Jim has been with us at Hi-Life from day one. As a promoter & DJ I have known him since the mid 90's when he promoted some brilliant nights at the legendary Leeds Warehouse (It's Obvious & Cushion).
He does less parties for me these days, as he runs DJ School, teaching young people DJ skills. www.djschooluk.org.uk So, as you have guessed he is no slouch on the decks!
He is a man who can turn his hands to most styles, including hip hop, breaks, funk & soul, disco, rave & old skool, D&B, dubstep, bass, ghetto funk, as well as indie & rock.
To sum him up he is a true professional.
Charles is one of the newer faces at Hi-Life, having joined up in 2012. He has made a big impression in that time & has become one of the key DJs, playing weddings & lots of 18th & 21st birthday parties He has years of experience DJing, both in his native Sheffield & also on the continent.
Like myself he is a former record shop owner & whilst he is mostly known for playing urban music & dance he can cover many styles, as he has an extensive knowledge of music. (He had to play one of my best friend's 40th birthday parties, as I was already booked. My friend is into very obscure 90's indie music & Charles rocked the party).
He has a massive presence, but you couldn't meet a nicer guy.
Rich also joined Hi-Life in 2012, but he has featured regularly in that time, having a residency with myself in Leeds, playing northern soul, Motown, ska, rocksteady & funk
He's well connected on the Leeds music scene & has the same DJ set up as DJ Ziggy, the NI S2 & Traktor Pro.
Rich also covers Rock & indie & the sorts of music Gilles Peterson is well known for.
In his spare time Rich produces his own music & is heavily influenced by legendary drummer Bernard Purdie.
20 years as a touring musician, club DJ and producer. Rick has seen and done plenty.
His formative years were in some of London’s most notorious and legendary venues. Either slinging a guitar or spinning some of the dirtiest underground tracks imaginable at places like The Marquee, The Electric Ballroom, Electrowerkz and the Underworld.
In recent times he’s reinvented himself as someone capable of handling any style and as a DJ has a fondness for filth laden electronic styles such as drum n bass and trap. But does plenty of chart and wedding work and has a reputation for solid reliability and old fashioned hard work.
Rumours however that his eyes light up with secret and burning pleasure when asked to spin Rock, Metal and Punk may have some truth to them. Lets face it. The hair is a dead giveaway.
When sunset is upon us and day turns to night Fuzzy Jones turns into Funk-Soul DJ, B-Side Girl. Playing pure vinyl (which is rare these days).
She has supplied musical entertainment for many events, club nights and fundraisers, across the country, over the last 12 years, including the Hifi Club (Funk Soul Nation & Move On Up), the Wardrobe and residencies at North Bar and the Midnight Bell, Leeds.
She also plays weddings, bar mitzvahs and really any kind of party you desire (within reason)! Her main specialities are deep funk, soul, northern soul, disco, sixties, psychedelia, 50's & 60's R&B, glam rock & a touch of rock & roll.
Baboon has been DJing since the age of 15 and in that time has been a scratch DJ for hip-hop groups The Sound Of The Baskervilles and Miniature Heroes; resident at The Wardrobe, Smokestack, Milo and Belgrave Music Hall; played festivals in UK and Europe and supported acts including Jurassic 5, Blackalicious and DJ Yoda.
His tastes run from hip-hop and funk to rockabilly, folk and 70s rock
His set up uses Serato, with Technics 1210's, using time code vinyl for hands on mixing.
Born and bred in the cultural melting pot of Bradford his musical influences range from reggae to bhangra and everything in between add to this own Irish heritage and you get a very multi-cultural Dj
A very experienced wedding DJ, who would describe the key to any successful party as “preparation”! Very much a 90s child who has been heavily into the dance music scene since its original days so if it’s house music you want he has this covered!
A very passionate music fan there isn’t a genre he hasn’t studied and loved he would describe his musical interests as eclectic! A customer services professional who is expert at keeping everyone happy from young to old.
Tareck (his non DJ name), has been involved in music since his teens, DJing, managing bands, singing, writing reviews, promoting nights and radio. His most recent radio show 'Sticks and Stones' is a weekly Friday night show on BCB radio in Bradford, playing a range of funky dance, soul, jazz fusion, classic breaks, rare groove and funk.
He has always been influenced by guitar crossover music such as bands like The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Funkadelic and Prince, although claims his number 1 influence is James Brown.
Having played Festivals around Europe, club nights in Leeds and Manchester, as well as weddings, birthdays and special occasions for the last 10 years, Jackson Lee loves nothing more than a good time and a dance floor full of party people!
Adrian is an experienced bar and club dj with over 20 years experience. He currently has residencies at Sandinista, Smokestack, Black Swan and Norman bar in Leeds but has played in bars, clubs, festivals and parties internationally. He is passionate about all styles of music.
His love of music began with alternative rock and indie but then branched into electronic music, rave, house, techno, electro, dnb, hiphop and breaks through which he discovered the roots of music bringing him back to funk disco afro latin soul reggae ska rnb.
He has supported the likes of dj Premier, Andy Smith, Aim, Kraftykuts, Aquasky, Irration Steppas, Junior Murvin and has played alongside techno greats Laurent Garnier and Sven Vath. He is also a member of UE (Urban Exploration) and produces at their Crooked Acres studio.
Jonathan is a fairly new recruit for us at Hi-Life, having been with is 12 months, but has had many residencies over the years at top venues
He is a personality style DJ and can host speciality nights which include Northern Soul, Reggae, Ska, R'n'B, 70’s, 80’s and current chart music. He has a vast knowledge of most genres of music and has DJ'd some very eclectic sets for us.
He can also play the piano and sings, which can be useful for wedding services.
Brendan, being the youngest member of the current Hi-Life DJ team covers a lot of our 18th and 21st birthday parties. He is based to the south of Manchester, (Cheshire), and is well placed to travel to many of our events on both sides of the Pennines.
As well as covering current chart, house and urban styles he is very knowledgable about all areas of soul and disco, as well as Manchester related music throughout the decades.
He uses Traktor Pro DJ software and Pioneer DJ hardware, as part of his digital set up, run off MacBook Pro.
Maree has been DJing for 8 years now, following somewhat of a family tradition, as her father and brother are also DJs.
She is passionate about music and has worked all over Yorkshire in many hotels and bars, DJing at weddings and parties. Seeing a full dance floor with everyone singing and dancing along is her main motivation. Her favourite types of music to play are Motown and pop and rock.
Outside DJing, she works as an auxiliary nurse in an A&E unit, which she also finds very rewarding.
Brett is one of the busiest men in Yorkshire's music scene. He owns his own recording / rehearsal studio, is agent for a host of live artists, has his own acoustic duo and manages to fit in some DJing too at weddings and parties!
His own agency site is www.24-live.co.uk
He is available for bookings via Hi-Life. We often use him when clients want a combination of live music and acoustic music.
A fairly recent recruit at Hi-life, but someone who has been on my radar for the best part of 20 years (since my record shop days). He has featured regularly at our residencies at MEATliquor in Leeds
Ritchie is a very experienced DJ & has a passion for lots of styles of music. I'm really pleased to have him on board.
In his spare time he takes part in military fitness & various sporting endurance challenges, which scare me a little!
Ritchie is one of our DJs that offers a vinyl based set too, in the right locations. He also has a digital set up, using Traktor Pro for parties.
We are always looking for new DJs, and are particularly looking for DJs in the Newcastle and Middlesbro' areas. If you are reading this, get in touch! You need a MacBook Pro, DJ software (Traktor Pro or Serato ideally), or Record Box and CDJs, a good knowledge and a passion for music and have your own reliable transport.
